Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often marked by cynicism, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."
A President's Endorsement
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about observing this lovable family navigate their simple existence.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to evolve comedy past its prevailing layer of irony. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
What Comes Next
Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to experience the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
