Brian Eno Urges Support to Propel Together for Palestine Track to UK Festive Top Spot.
A campaign is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The project hopes to send support to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Possibility for Support and an "Surprise Victory"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to support Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an surprise number one.
“It would be fantastic if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I’m not gonna be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”
Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“The song holds a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “The essence is that I would rather die in dignity than spend my life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Star-Studded Lineup
The song was recorded following a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the performance was cut from the show due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of performers featured on Lullaby features a range of acclaimed names from the scene. All were part of the September show, which successfully generated a significant sum for charitable causes.
Production and Release
Lullaby was produced by a team of talented individuals. The song showcases a fusion of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The team running the campaign have stated that their aim is to raise as much as possible for a charitable pot. These resources will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“There is no a specific target,” a figure commented. “We aim for as much as possible. Naturally, the greater the amount, the better. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The reality in the region was noted for its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of infrastructure described as levelled or seriously harmed.
“In that context, a handful of millions is unlikely to make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is above all raising awareness for this issue and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is set to be released at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a digital service from mid-December.
