Supporters Demand Arrest of Individual Who Touched Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the actress are urging that a person who leaped a barricade and grabbed the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A viral clip shows the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing camera operators and charging at Grande while the actors proceeded down a promenade accompanied by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being led away of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being taken in", though official papers revealed that he was scheduled to appear on the next day. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram profile includes clips of him interrupting other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers event in the area last December.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is clearly a legal violation," wrote an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Voice Worry Over Ariana's Well-being
Many followers criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote one more message on Instagram.
Several supporters also criticised guards at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals called for social media platforms to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Event Details
In footage shared widely, Grande looked shocked when she was approached by the individual. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by guards.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Hundreds of supporters had assembled in a mass of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-part adaptation of the acclaimed theatrical show Wicked, which centers on the surprising bond between two very different witches.
The production itself is a derivative of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a rosé glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and received a dozen Oscar nominations, winning several for excellent wardrobe and set decoration.
