The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.
Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further activity:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
